报告题目：Spectrum of Arithmetic Coding

报告摘要：Arithmetic Coding (AC) is the most important technique for source coding. Since AC is a class of non-linear codes, its analysis is very difficult and there is no systematic analysis. This talk will report our advance on this topic. We show that anAC code partitions source space into unequal-size codebooks, so that the overall performance of AC codes depends on the cardinality and structure of these codebooks. We define two analytical tools, Codebook Cardinality Spectrum (CCS) and Hamming Distance Spectrum, to analyze AC for independent andidentically-distributed (i.i.d.) binary sources. The CCS can describe AC codebook cardinality. The closed-form of CCS is derived and a numerical algorithm is proposed for calculating CCS effectively in practice. The HDS can describe AC codebook structure.A mathematical method is derived to calculate the HDS of AC codes. All theoretical analyses are perfectly verified by experimental results.

报告人简介：方勇，1979 年 7 月生，江西崇仁人。2000、2003、2005 年于西安电子科技大学获学士、硕士和博士学位。2006 年于西北工业大学任讲师（后转博士后），2007 年至 2008 年于韩国汉阳大学任研究教授（合作方：韩国工程院院士郑济昌教授），2009 年至 2016 年于西北农林科技大学任教授、博士生导师、校学术委员会委员。期间 2015 年 3 月至 9 月受国家留学基金委员会资助于加拿大滑铁卢大学任高访学者（合作方：国际信息论学会Padovani讲座奖得主、加拿大双院士、IEEE Fellow杨恩辉教授），2016 年 7 月至 8 月于美国加州大学圣迭戈分校任客座教授。现为长安大学教授、博士生导师、智能物联网研究院副院长。主要研究方向：信息论与编码、视频压缩与传输、车联网。先后主持国家自然科学基金、陕西省自然科学基金等国家级、省部级项目10 余项。主持完成的“多媒体分析与处理关键技术及其应用”研究获陕西省科学技术奖，获IoTaaS’2020和AMIA-TBI’2016最佳论文奖。在IEEE TIT、IEEETCOM、IEEE TCyber、IEEE TCSVT、《中国科学：信息科学》等著名学术期刊发表论文 30 余篇，在IoTaaS、AMIA-TBI、PCS、DCC、ISCAS等重要国际会议发表论文 20 余篇，授权发明专利10余项。在Wiley 出版社出版英文学术专著 1 部，在国防工业出版社出版中文学术专著 1 部。入选教育部“新世纪优秀人才”和陕西省“青年科技新星”。目前担任IEEE TCOM和IEEE COMML编委。
